Safeguarding Part 1 you learned that anyone is capable of abuse. Parents, staff, teachers, even “friends” and community members are sometimes abusive. People with disabilities sometimes abuse each other. There all types of victims, offenders, and situations where abuse happens.

Why does abuse happen in one family and not the other? Why do people with disabilities feel respected in some organisations and not in others? Why do some organisations have a dark cloud of shame, guilt, fear, control, and secrecy? Part 2 of this training will explore the elements that produce a safe place, free from abuse.
